This policy explains how The Rework Room collects and uses personal data when you visit the site or contact us. The site is run by The Rework Room from London, and it applies to information you send through the contact form, by email, or by any other means.

We write a plain-English low waste home guide and a set of zero waste tips for beginners, and this page covers the small amount of data that keeps those guides running. There are three related documents: this privacy policy, our cookie policy, and our terms of service. Read them in any order; they are short on purpose.

Data we collect

We collect the information you give us directly: your name, your email address, and the contents of your message if you use the contact form or write to us at [email protected]. That is the whole list. If you are writing in to correct a guide — say a beeswax wraps usage and care note that has gone out of date, or a plastic free food storage suggestion that no longer matches what is on the shelf — the details you send are what we work from.

If you accept cookies, we also collect information about how you use the site, described in full in the cookie policy. That data tells us which guides get read and which get skipped, so we know where to put the next piece of work.

We do not collect payment information, because the site does not take payments. There is no checkout, no account to create, and nothing to buy.

How we use your data

We use what you send us for three things. First, to answer your message. Second, to update a guide when you have sent a correction — if you tell us that a reusable produce bags guide has the wrong fabric care note, we change the page. Third, to keep a record of the correspondence in case you write back later and we need to remember what was already said.

We do not use your details for marketing. No newsletter, no promotional email, no third-party list. We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not pass it to advertisers.

Site usage data is used for one job only: understanding which guides are useful and which are not. If readers keep leaving a page on upcycling vs recycling difference, that tells us the explanation needs rewriting.

Legal basis

Where you have contacted us, we process your data on the basis of legitimate interest — answering your message and keeping a record of the correspondence. That covers the reply itself, any follow-up, and the short paper trail behind a correction to a guide.

Where cookies are concerned, we rely on consent. You can withdraw that consent at any time, and the cookie policy explains how. Withdrawing it does not affect anything you have already told us by email or form.

How long we keep data

Two clocks run, and neither is long.

Messages you send us

Contact form messages and emails are kept only as long as needed to reply, plus a short period afterwards in case you write back. Once that window closes, they are deleted. Remember that deleting our copy of an email does not delete it from your own mailbox or your provider's records.

Site usage data

Usage data is subject to the retention periods set by the analytics provider, which the cookie policy sets out. We cannot shorten those periods by hand, but we can stop collecting by leaving cookies off.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access the information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. The table below sets out what each right means in plain terms and what we need from you.

Do I have to give you my name to contact you?

No. The form asks for a name so we know who we are replying to, but if you would rather sign off with just your first name — or nothing at all — the message still reaches us. We only need one way to write back, which is your email address.

Do you add readers to a mailing list?

No. There is no newsletter and no mailing list attached to this site, so contact form messages and emails are used only to reply and to keep a record of the exchange. If you write in about creative upcycling ideas and we reply, that is the entire lifecycle of your details.

What happens if I send a correction to a guide?

We read it, check it, and update the page if you are right. Your message stays in our records for the usual short period so we can follow up, and your name never appears on the guide unless you have asked us to credit you. If your correction touches a zero waste kitchen swaps page or a beeswax wraps usage and care note, we will tell you what changed.

Does the site track what I read across other websites?

No. Usage data is about pages on this site, so we can tell which guides are worth keeping and which need rewriting. It is not used to build a profile of you, and it is not tied to your email address if you have written to us.

Will this policy change?

If we change how data is handled — because a tool has changed, or the law has — this page is updated and the review date at the top changes with it. We do not date-stamp silent edits: if the substance moves, the date moves.
